Autocar magazine 29 November This week: New Defender - an Autocar exclusive; First drive in the 2018 Bentley Continental GT; Diesel tax: Why it could kill the black pump

This week's issue of Autocar we give you an inside scoop on Land Rover's long-awaited Defender successor, which is due to arrive in 2018.

There's also a first drive in the latest Bentley Continental GT long before it hits UK roads, to see if this luxury grand tourer can pick up where its hot-selling predecessor leaves off.

We also get squiggly in a Westfield Sport 250, which is useless as the weekly shop but provides lovers of driving with feel, character and agility no supercar can match.

Then it's over to the world of Formula E, where we examine why this relatively new category is fast-becoming a favourite with major manufacturers.

Also in this issue

Sticking with the electric theme, we get a go in the new Tesla Model S racer that's set to take part in the inaugral Electric GT series next year.

Coincidentally (we promise) this issue features another zero-emission motor, a solar-powered car, that we race Down Under.

For our latest new versus used battle, we pit a new Jaguar F-Type 2.0-litre against a similarly-priced second hand Audi R8, to see which offers the best ownership proposition for your dough.

Our road testers also shed their notes on the Volvo XC40 D4 R Design, Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and Skoda Karoq 1.5 TSI Edition DSG.

Our cars

We welcome a new car to the fleet in the form of the latest Volkswagen Golf GTI. Our mission? To find out if the spirit of the 1977 original lives on.

There's more fun motoring with our Seat Ibiza FR, while the Mercedes-Benz E220d Estate travels 567 miles to the Isle of Mull. Can this big-booted German fit on the land's dinky roads?

Deals

We commend the Volkswagen Polo, in all of its generations, as one of the market's best used buys.

Appetites for a sherry-fuelled Christmas (come on, it's almost December) used car purchase will be whetted by our Past Master review of the E34 BMW M5 -  a car that can be had from just £9000.
