2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 revealed With 755bhp and 715lb ft, this is the more focused version the most powerful Corvette yet

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has been revealed in Dubai. Its 755bhp and 715lb ft of torque make the car the most powerful Corvette – and most powerful Chevrolet – built to date.

Chevrolet claims a top speed of more than 210mph, although no other performance figures have been provided. Acceleration is likely to be around 3.0sec, however, given the car's 1598kg kerb weight.

The ZR1 is available with either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox, equipped with paddle shifters, marking the first time an automatic has been offered in the ZR1. Also optional is the high wing, which increases downforce by an estimated 431kg.

This high wing is two-way adjustable, although it reduces the car's top speed, and comes as part of a ZTK Performance Package, including a front splitter and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. The chassis is also specifically tuned with the pack.

A low wing package decreases downforce in comparison, but it's with this package that the claimed 210mph top speed can be achieved. Both packages feature a front underwing - a first for a General Motors car - that increases downforce. Both of the rear wings are attached to the car's chassis – something Chevrolet claims will increase strength and stability.

Under the bonnet, the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, codenamed LT5, has a supercharger that's 52% larger than that in the Corvette ZO6 and is more efficient. Another GM first is the car's dual fuel injection system, comprising primary direct injection as well as port injection.

Inside, the ZR1 gets leather-trimmed bucket seats, a performance data recorder and a Bose sound system as standard. Chevrolet will release more details nearer to the car's on-sale date.

No price has yet been given for the ZR1, although sales will begin in the spring. A handful is expected to be imported to the UK, although no official imports are likely.
